What the firm says

ABOUT THE COMPANY Redesign Health is a global venture and applied technology firm focused on building next-generation healthcare organizations. We manage venture capital, venture buyout, and health system transformation strategies, each powered by an AI operating system and a team of leading technologists, entrepreneurs, and investors drawn from the most consequential healthcare, AI, and software institutions in the world. Since 2018, Redesign and our portfolio companies have touched the lives of more than 15 million patients, raised over $1.5 billion from premier institutional, sovereign, and strategic investors. We’ve built distinctive partnerships with marquee healthcare organizations including Cedars-Sinai, Einstein and Sheba Medical Center, and senior with leaders around the world. We are headquartered in New York, with offices in Bengaluru, Los Angeles, and Riyadh. ABOUT THE TEAM Redesign's technology practice combines a frontier applied AI lab with deep healthtech investing expertise. Members of the practice have founded companies worth more than two billion dollars and built systems that serve hundreds of millions of patients, providers, and expert users, and run inside NASA, CIA, and 90% of the Fortune 500. ETEs are one of the ways that practice shows up directly inside a healthcare organization: small embedded teams who go further than advice or a pilot, and stay through the unglamorous work of making a solution part of how a health system actually runs. We believe everyone is a builder, and that AI lets an exceptional operator turn judgment into working software at the speed of thought - ETEs bring that belief inside the walls of a hospital system, a payer, or a healthcare services company, and prove it out with the people who have to live with the result. ABOUT THE JOB We're hiring an Embedded Transformation Engineer to lead technical implementations within healthcare organizations. This role requires the hands-on-keyboard ownership of a startup engineer, combined with the healthcare operator’s ability to build relationships with practitioners and ensure what is built solves real problems. Healthcare systems have for years struggled with consultants that develop thoughtful strategic advice, hand it over and leave. Today they are struggling with AI consultants, frontier labs and forward-deployed engineering shops that lead with amazing technology, but lack the healthcare expertise and practitioner relationships to build the right thing. We bring world-class healthcare leaders and operators that are laser-focused on the clinical/operational problem, and the product experience. You bring frontier-level AI expertise to architect, shape and implement the build with the best available technologies. You help make AI boring. Along the way, you build a modern, AI-native engineering ecosystem and culture. You do whatever it takes to turn a real clinical or operational problem into a seamless user experience that is adopted and loved. It just works, quietly facilitated and enabled by advanced AI. Together, we recognize that the real constraint in healthcare AI is adoption, trust, and workflow fit, not senior buy-in or model capability. Our typical work spans the entire healthcare technology ecosystem, from EHR & payer integrations to clinical workflows, patient engagement, revenue cycle management, analytics, document automation and building AI harnesses with appropriate evals, controls and security to augment real workflows. We hear every day how AI will cure cancer. But what we see are chatbots. Want to change that? Come join us. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Maintain a working opinion on the best tools on the market, including agent platforms, coding agents, eval and observability tooling, and integration tooling - and be willing to drop what you use today when something better shows up. - Understand the real workflow before proposing anything. Spend time with clinicians, revenue-cycle staff, hospital IT, to learn how things actually happen today, not how the org chart says they happen, and find common ground before you start building. - Given a real problem, advise the Field CTO on whether to deploy an existing product, port a known-good build from elsewhere in our portfolio, or build something new. Ask the right questions, push for the best solutions, then agree and commit. - Turn an agreed direction into an implementation plan the customer can sign off on - scope, modules, milestones, dependencies, risks, acceptance criteria - then deliver against it. When reality diverges from the plan, you raise it early and bring options (descope, resequence, workaround, more help, a new date), not just the problem. - Use autonomous coding agents as your delivery team: scope their work, set up harnesses and guardrails, run several in parallel, verify output with tests and evals, and recover cleanly when one goes off the rails. - Architect on the fly, inside the agreed design. Find where an implementation detail won't fit the target environment (data model, auth, interfaces, deployment) and change it, without waiting for someone to hand you a new spec. - Enable customers’ engineers to work effectively with agents, and to operate coding and code review harnesses that enable dynamism without sacrificing quality. Leave the team not only able to maintain and extend this build, but ready to innovate themselves. - Make end users confident, not just technically live. Run training, office hours, pilots, and feedback loops until people trust the tool, feel it improves their day, and can run it without you in the room. - Operate inside the customer's security and compliance posture. Build with PHI/HIPAA awareness as a given. WHAT YOU'LL NEED We value and actively seek exceptional talent from all backgrounds and experiences, recognizing that excellence takes many forms. While every path is different, we believe the most successful candidates for this role will share the following: - Daily, real use of autonomous coding agents for production work. You can talk concretely about what you've shipped this way, how you verified it, and what you learned when it went wrong. - The judgment to advise on deploy, port, or build, and to defend a recommendation to a skeptical stakeholder who isn't technical. - Integration instinct against messy, real systems - EHRs, payer systems, legacy stacks, or comparably gnarly, poorly documented environments. - A track record of delivering to a plan you wrote - scoping, sequencing, chasing dependencies across people and agents, and reporting status honestly, without being managed. - Experience teaching or mentoring engineers into a new way of working, not only doing the work yourself. - Ability to earn trust from people who see you as the outsider, building credibility by leading with humility, respect and empathy. You learn from and collaborate with them, not tell them why they’re wrong. - Comfort working as half of a two-person dyad in which you partner closely with a non-engineering counterpart who owns the "what" and the stakeholder relationship, without the need to own that side to feel effective. - The ability to talk to an operator, CIO, or CISO without a translator, and to translate between them and engineers. - Experience with HIPAA-compliant clinical workflows and their data models, including but not limited to decision support, transcription, medication ordering and reconciliation, diagnostic results management, and others. - Healthcare systems exposure is strongly preferred at every level including EHRs, payer and claims data, prior auth, revenue cycle, scheduling, pharmacy/PBM, or clinical data. Which area matters less than having seen how healthcare data and workflows actually behave. A candidate with no healthcare background can still be a fit if the agent-orchestration, delivery, and enablement evidence is exceptional - expect a ramp period. - Familiarity with pushing high-velocity product through a modern agentic coding ecosystem / harness(es) Strong plus: - A startup-generalist, consulting, or prior forward-deployed-engineer background. - Built or ran an internal AI-enablement or developer-productivity program. WHO YOU ARE - You respect the people and workflows already in place. You redesign work with the people who do it, not instead of them. - You're motivated by the patient and the operator at the other end of the system you're building, not just the technical puzzle. - You frame your past work by outcome, not activity or product - "cut processing from three days to four hours," - "the team now ships X without us" - You don't need a fixed spec to start, and you don't disappear into "just the code" - you stay close to the people who'll use what you build. - You've stayed through the awkward phase after go-live before. You know "shipped" and "adopted" are different claims, and you only make the second one when it's true. - You can advise without needing to own the decision, and you don't rubber-stamp a call you think is wrong. - You surface problems the moment you see them, and come with proposed solutions. - You don't have brand loyalty to the tools you used two years ago. HOW WE WORK Our company values are the standards and norms that shape how we make decisions, build teams, serve patients, and partner with one another. They define what you can expect from us and what we expect from every person who joins our team. We share them openly so candidates can decide whether this way of working will bring out their best. - Patients are waiting: Work with the urgency that patients deserve. - AI sets the floor: Nothing short of what AI in expert hands can deliver; taste and judgment own the last mile. - Stack the team: Talent density is our greatest asset; raise the bar with every hire. - Trust people, challenge ideas: Assume good intent; never shy from rigorous debate. - Sweat your craft: Take pride in your work; seek feedback to continuously improve. - Go beyond: Your role, comfort zone, and expectations for what's possible. - Be the partner you want: High integrity, responsive, and genuinely invested in shared success. - No shortcuts: Patient safety, clinical standards, and partner trust above all. Location & Compensation: NYC is strongly preferred. We target a range of experiences and levels and compensation will range based on background and location. Our compensation package includes market-leading portfolio equity.
