The labels used across the board should help you compare roles without decoding internal taxonomy.
- Career level
- The public stage of a venture career, such as intern, analyst, associate, principal, or partner.
- Direct-employer role
- A role where the venture firm itself is the employer.
- Portfolio role
- A role at a company backed by a venture firm. These are separate from jobs on the firm's own team.
- Platform
- Work that supports a fund or its portfolio, often including talent, marketing, community, or operations.
- Investor
- A role focused on sourcing, evaluating, deciding, or supporting investments.
- Venture studio
- An organization that creates companies as well as investing in them.
- Source freshness
- The latest successful check of the public hiring source behind a record.
