Sign in when the link does not work

Work at a VC uses a one-time email link instead of a password. The four things that usually go wrong, and how to fix each.

There is no password to forget. You give an email address, we send a one-time link, you press it.

When that does not work, it is nearly always one of these four.

The email has not arrived

Give it two minutes, then check spam. Sign-in mail comes from an address at workatavc.com, so allow that domain if your provider is aggressive.

If it is still missing after five minutes, request a new link. Requesting a second one invalidates the first, which is expected.

The link says it has expired

Sign-in links are short-lived on purpose. If you opened your email an hour later, request a fresh one; it takes seconds.

The link opens but nothing happens

Almost always because the link was opened in a different browser from the one that asked for it. Some mail apps open links in their own in-app browser.

Copy the link and paste it into the browser where you started, then try again.

You used a different address

An account is the email address. you@firm.com and you@gmail.com are two different accounts, even if both are yours. Sign in with the one you used the first time.

You do not need an account to use the board

Worth saying plainly: every listing, firm page and count on this site is public and free, with no account and no paywall. Signing in is only for the things that are about you specifically.

If none of the above worked, tell us what happened and include the address you tried. Do not include any password: we never ask for one, because there is not one.

What is stored, and how to have it removed.

Did this answer it?

If not, say so. Tell us what you were trying to do and what happened instead, and the answer usually becomes a better version of this article.
