How to read a listing, including the blank parts
What each field on a role page means, why so many are empty, and which ones you should never trust without checking the firm.
3 min read · Updated August 22, 2026A listing here is a summary of what one firm published on its own careers page, plus the date we last read it. Nothing on it is inferred from a guess.
The provenance line
Every role carries a line like "Checked against greenhouse · 21 August 2026". Two things are in it:
- The source provider. The system the firm publishes through, or its own site.
- The last successful check. The last time that source was read and this role was still on it.
If that date is old, treat the role as old. We drop a listing when its source has not been seen for fourteen days, so nothing here should be stale by more than two weeks, but a role can close on a Monday and still be sitting on the firm's board on the Friday.
Blank fields are a finding, not a bug
We do not fill an empty field with an estimate. If a firm did not say it, the listing does not say it either.
- No salary. Almost no venture firm publishes pay. We show the absence rather than a made-up band. There is a guide on why nobody publishes what venture pays.
- No level. Most current listings do not state a career rung in a form we can trust. Rather than assign one, the listing shows no level chip.
- "Not disclosed" on remote policy. The firm did not say. Assume the office is expected until they tell you otherwise.
The apply button goes to the firm
Apply takes you to the employer's own application, on the employer's own site. Work at a VC never receives, stores or forwards an application, and never submits one for you.
If the link is broken or the role is gone, that is worth reporting: see how to report a stale or incorrect role.
What "direct employer" means on the chip
Every role on this board is employed by the venture organization itself. Jobs at the companies a fund has backed are a different market and are not listed here. That is a deliberate boundary, explained on the about page.
